What does the Bible say about homosexuality?
Print Friendly
“Thou shalt not lie with mankind, as with womankind: it [is] abomination” (Leviticus 18:22).
We are living in an age marked by extreme gratification of carnal desires. Men and women are “lovers of pleasures more than lovers of God” (2 Timothy 3:4, 5). In today’s culture, sin is no longer being called sin. Indeed, some sinful acts have even become fashionable and respectable. This applies perhaps most clearly in our day to homosexuality.
Homosexual acts are sin. The Bible uses clear and unmistakable language: “Do ye not know that the unrighteous will not inherit the kingdom of God, don’t be deceived, neither fornicators, neither idolaters’, nor adulterers, nor ‘homosexuals’, nor sodomites … will inherit the kingdom of God” (1 Corinthians 6:9). There isn’t any use in trying to fabricate a way around this pointed statement.
Of course, homosexuals should be treated with respect and compassion when being reached with the gospel. But they should not be taught that God approves of the lifestyle. Either they can continue to choose to openly reject God’s Word, or they can choose Him and find freedom from this morally and physically dangerous lifestyle.
What’s even worse is that it seems that if enough people are united in doing wrong, even Christians can be led to think a sin is longer a sin. The acceptance of homosexuality by the modern church would have been considered open blasphemy to our church forefathers. They trusted and believed what Paul wrote about this topic: “They which commit such things are worthy of death” (Romans 1:32).
The fact that dozens of congregations across the country are entirely made up of homosexuals, pastor included, does not change the fact that homosexuality is an abomination. For the church at large to treat this moral evil as something good makes a mockery of their role as representatives of God.
